Each month the National Safety Commission publishes a bulletin for teens and parents designed to improve teen driver behavior, attitude, skills, and experience. Unfortunately, as teens gain experience, there is a tendency to become overconfident in their driving skills. This, coupled with a bad attitude, such as the "whatever" syndrome or the "it won't happen to me" syndrome, and poor behavior, such as talking on a cell phone or changing a CD while the vehicle is in motion, often lead to deadly results. In fact, the fatality rate for teenage driver is about four times higher than the rate for drivers 25-69 years old, based on annual travel.
The Safe Driving Teen articles emphasize judgement errors and mistakes made by other teens, and the consequences of those mistakes. Additionally, valuable information is provided that will help to improve their knowledge and driving skills. Parents are encouraged to discuss the articles with their teens to make sure they understand the information provided.
