After you're issued a ticket in Parkland, Florida for speeding or another type of infraction, you may be a bit upset. Consider these traffic statistics before you get too upset:

  • About 26,000 traffic accidents happen in Broward County every year.
  • Around 200 people die due to a traffic accident in Broward County annually.
  • The Miami Metro area averages over 90,000 traffic accidents every year with many resulting in injuries.

Avoiding a License Suspension in Parkland, Florida

License suspensions should be taken very seriously considering if you're caught driving with a suspended license you face up to 90 days in jail and $500 in fines. The State of Florida will suspend your license if you regularly break traffic laws.

Every traffic ticket handed out comes with points, which are attached to your Florida driver's license. These points accumulate and if you receive too many in a short amount of time, you will lose your license.

If you get 12 points in any 12 month period, you will lose your license for a total of 30 days. Get 18 points in 18 months and the suspension triples to 90 days. Any driver receiving 24 points in 36 months will be subject to a full one-year driver's license suspension.

Points for tickets include:

  • 6 points for causing an accident while speeding
  • 6 points for leaving the scene of an accident
  • 4 points for passing a stopped school bus
  • 4 points for speeding at 15 mph or more over the posted limit
  • 4 points for careless driving
  • 4 points for running a red light or stop sign
  • 3 points for driving after curfew (minors only)
  • 3 points for open container violations
  • 3 points for speeding at less than 15 mph over the posted limit

It's easy to see how you can rack up enough points for a suspension in a short amount of time.
